balance for good skiing
As thoughts turn to winter holidays it’s time to think about getting fit for skiing again.
tdc coach Phil Harrison guides you through a series of simple home-based exercises that will develop your balance and leg strength.
Good skiing starts with being able to balance your weight on one leg. So the first exercise is simply doing just that. Balance on one leg, flexing your knee slightly forwards. Start with balancing for 30 seconds and build up to a couple of minutes at a time.
Top tip - ensure that your kneecap sits over your second toe, this will train your body to be in good alignment.
If you want to make it more challenging, try closing your eyes (yes I do have my eyes closed behind the sunnies!).
To increase the difficulty in this exercise and all the ones that follow, balance on an unstable surface such as a rolled up towel or a cushion.
Next....you've tested your balance, now it’s time to add some strength to the legs.
